Originally planned as a “Physical” Conference, the relentless threat of the Covid-19 pandemic globally since March 2020 has left us with no option but to host for the first time since 2001, an AOCO series that will be conducted on a virtual platform. We are working very hard to come out with a scientific programme that is worthy of a Regional Conference at a reasonable rate for delegates from member countries to attend. It is pertinent that obesity is increasingly recognised as a risk factor or comorbid element in the threat posed to world health by COVID-19 and will likely need to be considered in what will, unfortunately, be future viral pandemics. This just adds gravitas to our communal focus on the prevention and treatment of obesity.

I believe that the AOCO-MASO 2021 meeting, having gleaned important insights into the running of virtual meetings over the last year, will be an excellent setting where we can safely appreciate the excellent program established by Professor Ismail Noor, President of MASO and Program Organising Committee of AOCO.
